Prince Marine: The Dandy Robot stars the eponymous main character, Marine, who is on a quest to save his kingdom (and subsequently the world) from a dangerous robot known only as "Top Hat." Tagging along is a sullen vagabond named Prima and pet alligator, Iolite. Together, the trio must travel from planet-to-planet across the Chromia System to collect pieces of the Core, a mysterious artifact of unknown origin. Only then can they possibly save Marine's home... and maybe the entire universe. Along the way, Marine will find out the what and why of Top Hat's goals, learn a lot about himself away from his privileged lifestyle, and perhaps stumble upon some skeletons in his family's closet...
Prince Marine: The Dandy Robot is a space fantasy and is recommended for folks who enjoy collect-a-thon plots, fanciful adventures, pulp fiction aesthetic, a dash of fashion, oceanic and sky visuals, and queer romance.
NOTE: The comic is suited for a young adult audience. I guess the closest is the equ. of a TV14 rating. While it can be read largely safe, there are (or will be) some violent and sexual themes. Please be advised.
Prince Marine: The Dandy Robot originated from a Transformers fan character that never got off the ground; all I had of him was that he'd be a "snooty robot prince." However, the comic really would not have existed if I hadn't been watching a (somewhat forgettable) anime at the time: Star Driver. The minute I saw the main character's mecha, the words "dandy robot" popped up in my head. The concept behind it was just so damn funny that I had to make a comic about it or let it go to waste. It just snowballed from there and the next thing I knew, I was rapidly drawing concept after concept, trying to get characters and a story down for years before finally posting the very first page on July, 30th, 2015. And, well, Bob's your uncle.
goodshipskypirate is an old, tired Asian whose been making comics since she was a kid and only discovered retroactively how much she loved drawing sequential art. The Dandy Robot is heavily inspired by a variety of media, including, but not limited to: Final Fantasy IX, Skies of Arcadia, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Cardcaptor Sakura, Moulin Rouge!, Majora's Mask, Porco Rosso, Castle in the Sky, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow/The Rocketeer, Transformers, and more. It's a smorgasboard of all the things the author loves: robots, fashionable characters, oceanic and sky visual themes, gilded age pulp fiction, and old-school video game plots. When she isn't making comics, goodshipskypirate enjoys gaming, useless trivia facts, deep sea creatures, grim reapers with thick ass thighs, and dogs.
